It’s fair to say Kiara Bowers is excited about kicking off Freo’s 2021 finals campaign against Melbourne at Casey Fields this Saturday.
In what has already been a rewarding few days for Bowers, the Fremantle midfielder is looking for a finals win against Melbourne to cap off a week of achievements.
On Wednesday, Bowers was not only crowned AFLCA’s champion player of the year, but she also earnt her third consecutive All-Australian squad selection alongside forward Gemma Houghton and defender Janelle Cuthbertson.
Houghton matches Bowers for a third-straight squad inclusion, however, she reserved her greatest pride for All-Australian newcomer Cuthbertson.
“I’m so rapt that ‘JC’ is in the squad, she is an absolute gun,” Bowers told 6PR Sportsday.
“She is probably the most courageous player we have on our team by far and she puts her body on the line every week.
“I don’t know how she keeps getting up after getting a knee in the back every single week, but I’m so glad that she’s in the squad.
“With Gemma, you can’t really stop her when she’s on and I can’t wait for this weekend to see how many goals she kicks.”
Fremantle won’t have far to look back to the last time they faced the Demons, going down by five points in their round eight clash at Fremantle Oval only two weekends ago.
Bowers believed her teammates will take plenty of lessons out of the defeat ahead of this weekend’s rematch.
“They are a great team and we’re actually really excited to go up against a team that we did lose to,” Bowers said.
“You can look back at what you did wrong and work from there.
“We are looking forward to going into battle with them and, hopefully, coming out on top.”
Bowers said the support from the Fremantle fanbase continues to spur the team on, as they look to reward the Purple Army with the ultimate success.
“Our Freo fans I think are the loudest bunch, they are so incredible,” Bowers said.
“Even just the messages that we get from fans on socials they are just such nice people and I kind of want to go out there and win just for them.”
