Fremantle have notified the AFL that the Club will appeal the charge of rough conduct handed to midfielder Kiara Bowers following an incident in Freo’s round eight clash with Melbourne at Fremantle Oval on Sunday.
The incident occurred in the first quarter involving Melbourne’s Eden Zanker.
The AFL match review officer classified the incident as careless conduct, medium impact and high contact.
Based on that classification, Bowers was offered a one-match suspension with an early plea.
General manager of football operations and performance Joe Brierty said the club believed there were grounds to challenge.
“Following confirmation from the AFL in relation to the charge we have consulted with our lawyers and club management overnight,” Brierty said.
“We hope for a successful outcome at the tribunal.”
The tribunal hearing will occur at 4:15pm WST on Tuesday afternoon.
