Alex Pearce’s mum Karen could not believe the roar from Fremantle supporters at Domain Stadium on Saturday night when her son got his first touch.

Pearce impressed in his debut, earning praise from senior coach Ross Lyon and Freo fans, during the 28-point win over Essendon.

She told The Advocate newspaper, both her and Alex’s dad Scott wept when he ran out through the banner.

The family travelled from Ulverstone in Tasmania to Perth for the game, after hearing Alex would debut on Thursday and were surprised with the reception the 19-year-old got.

“I wasn’t expecting it, I didn’t think that half of the 37,000 people would know who was Alex and that was his first touch, but they did,” she said.

“It was amazing to watch, the first touch that he got, they kicked it over to him on the wing and he took the mark and all the Fremantle crowd gave a big roar.”

An unforgettable experience for Pearce

Mrs Pearce praised the club for its support of players and their families.

“Everyone is just so supportive over here, it’s just like a huge family of Fremantle football people,” she said.

“The president of the club made sure we were right there to see it all and we didn't miss any of it."

Pearce finished with 10 disposals and six marks and kept dangerous Essendon tall Joe Daniher to just one goal.

“He was really good, he remained composed throughout the whole game,” Mrs Pearce said.

“He took his marks, had some good positions and touches, he just did his job.”
