Fremantle will have to keep level heads against Adelaide on Saturday if they wish to avoid the mistakes that proved costly against Carlton, according to midfielder Stephen Hill.
Hill said Freo’s composure let them down in crucial moments of the game, and that they can’t afford to make the same errors against an impressive Adelaide team.
“We had to be more composed at times,” Hill admitted
“We over handballed, and turned it over way too many times and it hurt us on the rebound.
“We rushed it and got away from our kicking and it turned into a handball game, and they (Carlton) were able to close in on us.”
Freo's lack of composure costly
Hill said the presence of high-pressure players such as Eddie Betts and Charlie Cameron in the Adelaide forward line further emphasised the importance of ball use in the back half.
“We’ll have to be really diligent with the ball,” he said.
“Adelaide have been really good this year with their pressure, and they’re a very good side it that respect.”
Freo won their only encounter with the Crows at Adelaide Oval in round nine last season, but Hill said the venue and fan base present a challenge for visiting teams.
“It’s a very loud venue and their fans really get amongst it,” he said.
“We’ll have to block that out and focus on what we can do and play the way we want.
“But we’ll have solid sessions this week and make sure we’re ready for the challenge.”
