Liam Henry will make his AFL debut when Fremantle run out against Sydney in Sir Doug Nicholls Round on Saturday night at Optus Stadium.

The small forward’s debut was announced on Thursday and he comes in for Brett Bewley, who is being managed for the clash.

Bewley, Tobe Watson, Tom North and Luke Valente have been named as the emergencies for the game.

Henry was drafted to Fremantle at no.9 in the 2019 NAB AFL National Draft and has impressed in a handful of scratch match appearances for Fremantle’s reserves.

He did not play in Fremantle’s scratch match against Carlton last Saturday because he was held over as an emergency.

Senior coach Justin Longmuir said Henry would have a lighter than normal load in his first AFL game.

“It’s exciting and he’s a highly talented young player,” Longmuir said.

“He’ll probably be on the lower end (of game time against Sydney), because it’s his first game and it will take a while to get up to 80 to 90 per cent of AFL footy.

“That will allow him to play to his strengths and bring his speed into the game with a little bit lower game time.”

Meanwhile Sydney have made one change with a swapping of co-captains as Josh Kennedy replaces the injured Dane Rampe.

Bouncedown for the Sir Doug Nicholls Round clash is at 6.10pm and will be broadcast live into WA on Fox Footy and 7mate.

It can also be streamed live on Kayo and AFL Live Pass.

Limited tickets to the game are still available through Ticketmaster.
