The players attended the Fremantle Ports Purple Haze Sausage Sizzle this morning to kick off the 2007 Starlight Purple Haze Game at the Fremantle Port.
The 200-strong crowd came dressed in plenty of purple and enjoyed the opportunity to take on the players in the handball competition as well indulge in a tasty sausage sizzle with all proceeds going to the Starlight Children’s Foundation
.Club sponsor 92.9 - Perth's Hit Music Station, also sent their Road Runners along to the event and brought along some fabulous giveaways which were well sought after by the children at the handball competition.
A huge thanks must go to Fremantle Ports for the fantastic event and also to the wonderful people who have sponsored the delicious breakfast. The barbecues were donated by Coates Hire, the bread rolls by Bovells, the sausages were donated by Bill the Better Butcher in Willagee and thanks must also go to Zest Caterers, Balloon World in Myaree and 92.9 for their contributions this morning.
In addition to the breakfast, in the weeks leading up to the game, Ryan visited children at St John of God Murdoch where he fast became Captain’s Starlight’s magical assistant, while Des, Aaron and Chris spent time at Fremantle Hospital cheering up the children.
All four Purple Haze Ambassadors also spent an afternoon in the Starlight Express Room at Princess Margaret Hospital last week, playing on the Starlight Fun Centres and the foosball table!
To take the game out into the community this year, a special Purple Haze competition was conducted called ‘Haze Your Business’ which was run via www.fremantlefc.com.au where businesses were asked to dress their business purple and send in the photos!
There were some fantastic entries into the competition and the lucky winners were the ladies at the Fremantle City Library who won themselves a corporate box at the game thanks to Fremantle Football Club for their phenomenal purple efforts.
You can also purple haze yourself by entering the ‘Purple Play Off’ on Saturday. It is all about getting into the purple theme that will see one lucky member or supporter in the crowd at the Purple Haze Game walk away with a fantastic prize if they are crowned the best dressed!
To be eligible to enter – you have to wear PURPLE! Members and supporters wishing to enter must register with club sponsor 92.9 at gate 8 before the 2.10pm bouncedown on 31 March.
