Fremantle forward Michael Walters has been rewarded for his excellent finish to the 2012 season with a contract extension that will see him remain a Freo Docker for a further two years.

Walters has committed to the club through to the end of season 2014.

General manager of player management Brad Lloyd said today that the 21-year-old, who was contracted through to the end of 2012, deserved his new contract.

“Michael’s become an important player for the team and we look forward to a successful contribution from him again in 2013,” Lloyd said.

Walters has played just 21 career AFL games to date since being selected with pick 53 in the 2008 National Draft, although four of those games have been in finals.

He has proven to be a big-game performer with a total of nine goals in finals at an average of 2.25 per game.
