Purple Haze Kicks off at PMH
The 2007 Starlight Purple Haze Game, proudly supported by Fremantle Ports, was officially launched at Princess Margaret Hospital this week.
The ‘Purple Haze’ will hit Subiaco Oval on Saturday 31 March when Fremantle take on Port Adelaide in Round 1, and volunteers will be out in force collecting donations from our generous members and supporters.
The Starlight Purple Haze Game generates much-needed funds that will benefit seriously ill children of WA through the Starlight Children’s Foundation.
Purple Haze Ambassador Des Headland said he is thrilled to be involved in the Starlight Purple Haze Game.
“As a parent you realise how precious children are and the money fundraised through this game goes a long way to brightening the lives of sick children and their families in what is a difficult time,” Des said.
“It’s really great that we can all come here and bring a smile to the faces of these kids and ultimately, through the support of our generous supporters, help make a difference to these children’s lives.”
During the launch Des took a keen interest in the foosball table in the Starlight Express Room.
“It’s great fun to be able to come here and hang out with the children," he said.
“You can see their spirits lift and if it helps them feel better or forget their illness, even for a little while, then it is worth it."
Launched in 2003, the Starlight Purple Haze Games have raised almost $110,000 for the Starlight Children’s Foundation, raising much-needed funds for the seriously ill and hospitalised children in Western Australia.
“The Purple Haze Game has really become a huge game for the club, with the players and the crowd supporting the purple theme and everyone giving so generously," Des said.
“Also, to know that the Fremantle community play a part in making the children’s time in hospital more comfortable is fantastic.
“The challenge each year is to continue to make the game bigger and better and to raise more funds for the Starlight Children’s Foundation."
