Another game, another highlight or two for Michael Walters to add to his resume, but the exciting forward doesn’t want to take the credit for his moments of magic.

Walters kicked two brilliant goals against Greater Western Sydney on Sunday to back up last week’s excellent three-goal performance against Melbourne at Etihad Stadium.

“They were good goals, but I’m not going to take the credit for it,” a humble Walters said.

“It was a team effort.”

‘Son Son’ said it was his captain Matthew Pavlich who helped him kick his second goal.

“He blocked me out so as soon as I heard him call me back, I knew I was in the clear, so I had time to compose,” he said.

Walters admitted Freo’s errant kicking for goal was disappointing, especially the second term which saw the home side register 2.13.

But he was confident the team would make the necessary adjustments to split the big sticks in future.

“We just need to slow it down,” Walters said.

“We had more time than we thought. We had to slow it up and finish it off.

“I think we just rushed it a little too much and we weren’t accountable on the scoreboard.”

Earlier in the week, fellow small forward Hayden Ballantyne commented on his liking for playing with Walters.

‘Sonny’ said the feeling was mutual and added he “loved” teaming up with Ballantyne.

“He’s a zippy small forward like me and I like to play like him,” he said.

“I’d like to think that I can hold the pressure up like him. He’s a good player and it’s a treat to be down there with him.”

With all that has transpired in his football life in 2012, a realistic Walters wasn’t looking too far down the track, choosing to coin the old ‘one week at a time’ cliché.

“We’ll review on Tuesday and I‘ll see where I’m at,” he said.

“If I don’t play next week, I’ll go back to the WAFL and try and get back in the senior team.”
