FREMANTLE midfielder Nat Fyfe will need to prove his running capabilities are back to top notch if he is to win selection for Sunday's clash with Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium.

Fyfe has fully recovered from early-season shoulder surgery and had initially been pencilled in to return against the Power this week.

But a sub-par running performance in a recent training session means his selection is no longer guaranteed, with coach Ross Lyon wanting to see Fyfe in full flight on the track this week before rubber stamping his inclusion.

"He looks a million bucks but his first full training session back he didn't hit the parameters we would like him to hit running wise, so he was made aware of that," Lyon said.

"He had a much improved performance in our last training session, so that gave us a bit of an indicator.

"He'll need to deliver that again and again (this) week before he gets ticked off, so he's got a bit of work to do yet on proving that he can hit those thresholds."

Forward Chris Mayne is a good chance to return from a calf injury, while defender Zac Dawson (knee) and Greg Broughton (back) will also attempt to prove their fitness.

Midfielder Lachie Neale is another who will be in the selection mix after tallying 38 possessions for WAFL side Swan Districts on Saturday.

Sunday's 95-point win over Greater Western Sydney lifted Fremantle to within 2.6 percentage points of eighth-placed North Melbourne.

Lyon wasn't completely satisfied with the performance, but was glad to see his side notch their third win on the trot.

"It's great to be alive at this time of the year, and if we're good enough, we'll get there," Lyon said.

"We're in control of our own destiny."
