Crowley out to tag a Cat
Ahead of his 6th final, tagger Ryan Crowley shares his thoughts on the stars of the Geelong midfield
One player the Freo tagger won’t have to worry about is the suspended Steve Johnson, who Crowley has played against in the past.
“I’ve played on Paul Chapman a couple of times when he’s pushed up in the midfield and back in the day I used to play on Gary Ablett,” Crowley said.
He had a few words to say about his possible match-ups on Saturday night:
Joel Selwood
Obviously the captain of their club and a club that has been really successfully for a long time. It says a lot about a guy that can come into a system and organisation like that and become a captain at such a young age. If we could tell our young players to follow the way anybody plays, he’d probably be the one.
James Kelly
I played with him at under-18 level. He’s always been hard at it. He’s a great tackler, a good team man and just a really good player.
Paul Chapman
Once again he’s quite hard, which seems to be a common thread here. He’s a good runner and he can push forward and kick goals. He’s one of my harder opponents.
Jimmy Bartel
He’s a big game player.
“All these guys are great players, and I’ve played against a lot of them over the years. I’m hoping we’ve got to a point where we respect them and don’t fear them anymore. We’ll be out there to win it on Saturday,” Crowley said.
