Rucks and forwards

Tanner Smith – (PT) 14 disposals (5 kicks, 9 handballs) 6 marks, 8 hitouts

Played forward and had to ruck for passages because of Craig Moller’s withdrawal. Tanner worked hard and showed great effort throughout the game. He took several strong marks on long leads. He’ll build on this number of leads presented and marks taken as the season progresses.

Josh Mellington – (WP) 23 disposals (14 kicks, 9 handballs) 5 marks, 4 inside 50, 1 goal

Played as a high forward and had brief passages on the wing, and went inside-mid late in the game and won a couple of good clearances. He was energetic and engaged in the game for the full four quarters. Used the ball well with a variety of kicks and had a hand in a number of scoring chains for West Perth. Kicked a good front and square goal in the third quarter and, overall, a good game for Josh.

Josh Simpson – (EF) 13 disposals (7 kicks, 6 handballs) 2 marks, 4 inside 50, 2 goals

Josh flashed in and out of the game. He kicked two set-shot goals. When he stayed close he had an impact on the contest by either holding the front and square position or running to receive in vision. He ran some nice patterns inside 50 to attract the football and his tackling intent improved on recent weeks.

Max Duffy – (PT) 14 disposals (10 kicks, 4 handballs) 4 marks, 3 inside 50, 1 goal (5 behinds)

Max started well. He looked a real threat around goal and kicked 1.5 to half-time. In the second quarter he worked up the ground and had two possession gains that resulted in forward 50 entries. He broke into space with intensity, but his work-rate dropped away in the second half. Max is working very closely with his coaches on playing the Fremantle brand of football.

Matthew Taberner - (PT reserves) 13 disposals (12 kicks, 1 handball) 10 marks, 5 goals

Played key forward and presented hard for four quarters. He was constantly on the move and has a real ability to lead up hard and back, and from side to side on the switch, which makes him very difficult to defend. He was a consistent target for Peel’s team and we were very impressed with his effort throughout the game.

Jack Hannath – (PT) 13 disposals (8 kicks, 5 handballs) 5 marks, 25 hitouts

Jack rucked most of the game with Craig Moller withdrawing. He won the majority of his hitouts and gave Peel’s midfield first use of the ball. We need him to be more aggressive with his run around the ground and put more pressure on the opposition.

Craig Moller – (PT)

Withdrew from the game after the warm-up after feeling some soreness.
