WAFL Watch - Round 16: Mids and defenders
Find out how Freo's mids and defenders fared in the recent round of WAFL action
Haiden played inside mid with short stints forward. Whilst he was slow to get going in the first quarter, he became heavily involved in South Fremantle's clearances in the second and third quarters. Overall he had six clearances for the game. He showed good composure at several stoppages where he was able to run and draw the man and also gave good pressure around the contest registering nine tackles for the game.
Tanner Smith (PT) 1 disposal (1 kick)
Tanner suffered a shoulder injury in the first 10 minutes of his game. He is being assessed and we will take it from there.
Alex Forster (PT) 16 disposals (10 kicks, 6 handballs) 9 marks
Alex played high in defence predominately on Kody Manning. He did a good job limiting his influence on the game. He worked hard to spread laterally to get used in the transfer of play. He is getting his football back on track and we were pleased with his performance.
Peter Faulks (PT) 19 disposals (12 kicks, 7 handballs) 7 marks
Peter played as a key defender and only had one goal kicked on him for the game. He gave great effort, won a high number of aerial and ground level contests demonstrating strong attack and spoiling. He rebounded hard out of defence and it was a positive performance for Peter.
Jesse Crichton (PT) 18 disposals (9 kicks, 9 handballs) 5 marks
Jesse played as a high defender on a variety of opponents. He had three goals kicked on him in the third quarter but aside from that he looked to run and rebound out of defence. He ran some high numbers and we were happy with his sprint distance, the kilometres he covered and his defensive running patterns.
Viv Michie (PT) 23 disposals (16 kicks, 7 handballs) 5 marks, 5 tackles 1 goal
Viv played inside mid and started slow but improved over the course of the game, once he started to move a lot more around stoppages. He started to use his legs to drive through the gaps. One of the positives of Viv's game was his kicking where he made good decisions in one-on-ones and lowering his eyes. He was much better in the second half and he will no doubt continue his good form.
Josh Simpson (EF) 18 disposals (10 kicks, 8 handballs)
Josh played as a wing and inside mid for the game with a very attacking brand of football. He really took the opposition on whenever he had a chance. He had five inside 50's and he will continue to focus on improving his defensive transition.
