The AFL Match Review Panel has charged Essendon’s Patrick Ryder with a level four rough conduct offence for his bump that knocked Fremantle’s Luke McPharlin out of last Friday night’s game at Patersons Stadium. VIEW THE INCIDENT.

The first quarter hit earned Ryder 425 demerit points and a four-match ban, although he can accept a three-match sanction with an early plea.

Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from Fremantle, the incident was assessed as reckless conduct (two points), high impact (three points) and high contact (two points), resulting in a total of seven activation points.

Ryder, who is from Western Australia, was instrumental in the Bombers’ victory, kicking the winning goal in a four-point win.

Nick Kommer, another Essendon WA recruit, was also handed a three-match penalty for engaging in rough conduct against Kepler Bradley, who left the field bleeding from the head in the first quarter. VIEW THE INCIDENT.

Kommer can have the penalty reduced to two matches with an early plea.

The former East Perth player escaped two more possible sanctions after the MRP deemed his fourth quarter sliding offence against Lee Spurr was below that required to constitute a reportable offence. VIEW THE INCIDENT.

No further action was also taken for Kommer’s final term trip against Tendai Mzungu. VIEW THE INCIDENT.
