When tackling teammate Tanner Smith 90 minutes into Wednesday's session at Fremantle Oval, Morabito twisted awkwardly and grabbed at his left knee, which has been reconstructed twice.
The 21-year-old appeared devastated, punching the ground and hunching on all fours. After speaking with trainers, he left the ground and was offered support by teammate Kepler Bradley.
Morabito was driven for scans by coach Ross Lyon shortly after leaving the ground and was accompanied by the club's medical staff.
Fremantle football operations manager Chris Bond confirmed Morabito had suffered an injury and said the club was expecting scan results on Wednesday afternoon.
"It's obviously a concern with Anthony's history," Bond said.
"I'm sure there's a great deal of anxiety there not knowing exactly what the case is (but) we'll get those results straight away and then we'll work out an action plan from there."
Morabito, who had his most recent reconstruction last July, trained on Wednesday with no brace or strapping on his left knee and had only been held out of full contact drills.
The talented youngster was closing in on his anticipated playing return early in 2013, having missed two years of football.
Bond would not be drawn on the possibility of LARS surgery or Morabito's future AFL prospects if he required a third reconstruction.
"Anthony was tracking very well, so we're hoping for the best at the moment," Bond said.
"Our big focus at the moment is Anthony straight away.
"We'll sit down and work an action plan out with Anthony and all our staff as soon as we hear the results."
Recruited with pick No.4 in the 2009 NAB AFL Draft, Morabito announced himself as a future star in 2010, playing 23 of 24 games in his debut season.
However, the powerful youngster has not played since Fremantle's semi-final loss to Geelong at the MCG in 2010.
