Freo to keep foot on the pedal
Jason Weber says the club will prepare this week as if it were playing a game on the weekend
Ross Lyon’s side will play the winner of the Sydney-Carlton match in a preliminary final at Patersons Stadium Saturday week.
Weber said, despite no game this weekend, training was business as usual.
“We’re going to keep the foot on the pedal,” he said.
“We’re sticking with what we’ve been doing, we’ve had a very successful program to this point so we’re not really changing anything.
“We trained this morning, albeit lightly to recover from what was a tough contest against Geelong, and we’ll be moving into training Thursday for our normal T2 preparations as if we were playing a game on the weekend.”
A casualty from the bruising contest with the Cats was Nick Suban, who limped off the ground with an ankle injury and was subbed off.
But Weber allayed any fears about the tough midfielder’s availability.
“It’s relatively minor so he’s had some medical work done this week and he should be no challenge late in the week,” he said.
The sports science manager was also confident Michael Johnson would be right to go.
“’Johnno’ is coming up really well,” he’ll progress through his running this week and we’ll hopefully get him into the team training late, with a view to next week,” he said.
Garrick Ibbotson continues to battle an Achilles injury that has kept him sidelined since round 19.
“’Ibbo’ is progressing in his rehab, he’ll progress throughout the week in regards to his KPI’s that he needs to tick, ” Weber said.
“Hopefully we’ll get to see him in the near future.”
