WAFL Watch: Round 8 - Rucks and forwards
Find out how Freo's players fared in the recent round of WAFL action
Jack played key forward rotating through the ruck. Showed some good use of bodywork at boundary throw-ins and some positive ground level follow up. Jack’s focus is to get to the same level of intensity and physicality he has shown in previous weeks.
Jon Griffin 11 disposals (3 kicks, 8 handballs) 5 tackles, 47 hitouts
Jon played in the ruck and periods in the forward line. He showed strong physical presence at stoppages, competed at ground level and took a couple of strong contested marks in packs. His confidence is continuing to build with regards to his jumping in contests and presence at ground level. Overall it was a positive game for Jon.
Matt Taberner 16 disposals (14 kicks, 2 handballs) 12 marks, 5 goals
Matt was the best forward on the ground beating his opponents constantly. He worked to present up at the kicker as an outlet and released hard into the forward 50. He showed some strong attack in the air taking four contested marks and 12 marks overall. He used his body well and constantly presented as a strong target through his run and effort.
Craig Moller 10 disposals (9 kicks, 1 handball) 20 hitouts, 6 marks
Craig played ruck and forward for Peel reserves. He showed some good tap work to advantage. There was one passage of play where he body-lined the football in the first quarter and went back with the flight. We are working on Craig getting more of the football around the ground, but when he did get it, he looked to use the ball inside the corridors to open the game up.
Michael Wood 16 disposals (11 kicks, 5 handballs)
Michael played forward and midfield in the reserves. He showed some good hands around the stoppage. There were passages in the fourth quarter where he showed positive off-ball run. He also broke hard out of defence, but needs to continue on his bodywork around stoppages and his physicality.
Michael Apeness 13 disposals (5 kicks, 8 handballs) 4 marks
Michael provided some strong contests in the air, to bring the ball to ground particularly in long, down-the-line contests. He showed some good second and third efforts and reacted quicker than his opponent to gather at ground level and give off to runners.
