It was hard to tell who was having more fun in the Starlight Express Room at Princess Margaret Hospital on Friday afternoon when Lachie Neale, Chris Mayne, Aaron Sandilands and Alex Silvagni called in for a visit.

The room was packed full of eager Freo fans keen to meet the Freo players who are also Starlight ambassadors.

The patients and players played a game of bingo, before getting their maracas, tambourines and even a ukulele out to have a sing and dance-a-long.

It wasn’t long before the guys became almost unrecognisable pulling on crazy coloured wigs and fancy clothes.

Alex and Chris decided to wear leather jackets while Lachie opted for a lovely pink cardigan.

“It was good to dress up and be silly and just have fun with the kids,” Silvagni said.

“We came here to put a smile on the kids faces and I’m sure we achieved that this afternoon.”

The 12th annual Starlight Purple Haze game is next Saturday, 29 March at 4.40pm at Patersons Stadium against Gold Coast.

The Starlight Purple Haze Game, which is proudly supported by Fremantle Ports raises money for the Starlight Children’s Foundation.

Fans coming along to the game are encouraged to dress in purple, and donate to the Starlight volunteers who will be rattling tins in the Patersons Stadium precinct before the game.

Silvagni said the Starlight Purple Haze game was one the players looked forward to each season.

“The game is a good opportunity for the players and fans to come together and show their support for the Starlight Children’s Foundation,” he said.

“Obviously for the 22 out there playing they want to get the win for the kids, and the non-playing players will be rattling the Starlight tins in the lead up to the game.”

“It will be great to see our all members and fans decked out in purple, and, hopefully, we can beat last years fundraising record of $106,000.”
