Conventional wisdom might suggest that after such a commanding performance in the first week of the season the Dockers would want to carry their momentum forward quickly.
No 'new Ross Lyon' says Johnson
However, Johnson thinks a weekend off ahead of the Dockers round two match-up with the Gold Coast will be important.
"Leading into round one with the NAB Challenge competition, it knocked us around a bit so it'll be a good weekend to get away and rest up and get back on the horse next week," Johnson said.
"It's all about recovery this week and I know there are a few sore boys. This little rest before round two will help a lot of players out."
Ross Lyon has already indicated that a number of key Dockers vying for senior selection will play for Peel Thunder in the WAFL on Saturday.
Colin Sylvia, Nick Suban, Clancee Pearce, Anthony Morabito, and first-round draft pick Michael Apeness all played in Peel's last WAFL pre-season match last week and will likely line-up again.
Lyon flagged the possibility of Lachie Neale potentially playing for Peel after playing just one quarter as the sub against Collingwood.
Alex Silvagni and Zac Clarke are candidates to return from their Achilles and knee injuries respectively.
One man who definitely will play for Peel is Garrick Ibbotson. The defender confirmed this week he will remain at the Dockers until the end of the 2017 season after signing a three-year contract extension.
Ibbotson could have been an unrestricted free agent and Johnson was ecstatic he signed on to remain at the club.
"It's fantastic," Johnson said.
"He's a great player for the club and to get him signed on and have him around for another couple of years it just gives the club confidence going ahead."
Ibbotson started last season in the WAFL but performed magnificently when he returned to the side in round five. The 26-year-old was being talked about as a potential All Australian after leading the league in intercept marks but an Achilles injury ended his season in round 18 and subsequent surgery has delayed his return this season.
"He's had a tough off-season but he's working really hard to get back into the team and hopefully he can go out and play really good footy this week for Peel," Johnson said.
