Ruckman Aaron Sandilands has signed a one-year contract extension that will see him at Fremantle through to the end of the 2017 season.
Sandilands currently sits third on the all-time games played list at Fremantle on 241 games. The dual Doig Medallist said he was excited to play on next year.
“It’s great to be at the club for another 12 months,” Sandilands said.
“We’ve got a really strong group of players. Although the results aren’t going our way at the moment I believe we’ll work through that and be better for it.”
Midfield crucial to quell Giants' forwards
Sandilands said the decision to re-sign for 2017 was an easy one, given his passion for the game and what he believes he can bring to Freo on the field.
“I still love coming to the club every day, am still very passionate and enjoy my footy,” he said.
“I was really happy the club wanted me to go around again and I still believe I have a fair bit to contribute.”
Fremantle’s general manger of player management Brad Lloyd said the club was thrilled to have Sandilands on board for the 2017 season.
“Aaron’s been an outstanding player for the Fremantle football club since being recruited as a rookie in 2001,” Lloyd said.
“He’s a quality person and has a strong leadership involvement at the football club and we’re absolutely delighted for him to be playing on.”
The contract extension comes while Sandilands is sidelined with a rib injury but the ruckman said his recovery was coming along nicely.
“I’m ticking some boxes and things are moving in the right direction,” he said.
“The body is starting to feel a lot better and we’ll build from now on and hopefully be back out there as soon as possible.”
