It was the first of 244 excellent games for Freo when Michael Johnson made his debut on this day on 17 April 2005.
Sporting much longer hair than we’d remember from his final season in 2018, Johnson started on the bench when Freo took on Richmond in round four at the MCG.
While Johnson would make a name for himself down back, his debut was highlighted by a great goal.
He was hit on the lead by Shaun McManus, slotting the goal on a tight angle from just inside the 50.
While Richmond spoiled Johnson’s big day with a 48-point win, Johnson would enjoy quick success as Freo would win the next four games he played.
