Fremantle’s heart-stopping three-point win over Collingwood has an extra special place in the heart of Jasmin Stewart.

Playing a large hand in the design of Fremantle’s inaugural AFLW Indigenous jumper, Stewart said the process had been ‘a long time coming’.

With help from captain Kara Antonio, teammates Gemma Houghton and Ebony Antonio, board member Colleen Hayward and number one ticketholder Richard Walley, the Indigenous jumper was born. 

Stewart said it was ‘incredible’ to run out onto Fremantle Oval in the jumper, through a banner reading ‘Kalyakoorl my Walyallup Sister’.

“It was a long time coming, we had planned this for a really long time now,” Stewart said.

“To see it finally on the girls, they all looked incredible.

“I’m really lucky to be able to have this relationship with the girls and it just shows how tight-knit we are, so it’s really nice.

“The club’s involvement in the Indigenous themed week could not have gone better.”

Stewart believes the week’s Indigenous theme helped her teammates find the motivation to dig deep in a tense final quarter. 

“I’m just so happy, I just think we played an amazing game today,” Stewart said. 

“Juddy mentioned quite a lot how important this week is to us and referred back to our smoking ceremony.

“She spoke really highly of how important this game was. 

“Trent said we were really resilient, so I think we should be really happy with ourselves.”

The win leaves Freo with an undefeated start to the 2020 season.

“It was tense, Collingwood didn’t give up and it certainly wasn’t an easy game,” Stewart said. 

“We’re really happy to come home with the four points.”
