Fremantle midfielder David Mundy says despite his team’s undefeated start to the year, things can change quickly.
Freo’s 28-point win over Essendon at Domain Stadium on Saturday night went to script for the home team, but several other surprise results earlier in the day, have caused ripples in the ladder.
Mundy, who starred with 28 touches including seven marks, said it was disappointing Freo could not put together a solid four quarters.
Fremantle led by 54 points at three-quarter time before Essendon kicked late goals to reduce the margin.
“It’s bloody hard AFL football,” he said.
“The results today show how tough a game it is, Hawthorn going down to GWS and Bulldogs going down to St Kilda.
“You’ll not always get four quarters every week but it’s about minimising the damage when you’re not in control.”
However, Mundy said when the game was there to be won Freo stood up.
Performing when it counts
“I thought in the second and third quarter we took control of the game and managed to kick away,” he said.
“The last quarter was a bit of a disappointment but we were brave enough to take the game on in the early stages.”
