At 25-years-old, Rory Lobb will slip in as one of the more experienced players on Fremantle’s list in 2019.
The 207cm forward signed for Fremantle in the NAB AFL Trade Period on Wednesday, joining Jesse Hogan and Reece Conca as the club’s additions during the Free Agency/Trade Period.
Lobb, who played a part of a developing list at GWS for five seasons, said he expects big things in Fremantle’s future.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing what we can do as a club,” Lobb said.
“Obviously, with these young players having another year under their belt, as well as a few more players like Jesse Hogan coming across as well, I’m excited to see what we can do.
“I feel like we can really go some places in the next couple of years. I really like the way that the list looks and where it is at the moment.”
Lobb said he was quick to reach out to former Giants teammate – and now current Fremantle teammate – Nathan Wilson as the trade went down.
“I texted Nathan just before it got announced,” Lobb said.
“We’re pretty close from when he was over at GWS, so it will be great to get back and play some footy with him.”
Lobb is currently holidaying on Fraser Island in Queensland and said he was looking forward to getting back to WA and settling down.
“I’ve been away for five years. I was always planning to come back so when the opportunity arose I took it,” Lobb said.
“I want to come back and enjoy my footy and see my family.
“Obviously, I’m really happy that we got the deal done and I’m really excited to be coming back to Perth and enjoying my footy.”
Fremantle started the trade period holding first round pick no.6 and fifth round pick no.81 (worth 1751 points on the AFL Draft Value Index) and now have first-round pick no.14, second-round pick no.31 and third-round picks no.43 and 65 at their disposal.
Fremantle’s current hand is worth 2235 points according to the AFL Draft Value Index – equivalent to the value of a no.3 pick.
