Fremantle’s Chris Mayne has spoken of the pride he took in his club’s 113-point win in his 100th game.

The 24-year-old celebrated in style, with the victory eclipsing the 112-point win over Collingwood in 2005 as Freo’s greatest winning margin.

He spoke after the game about what the victory had meant to him on his milestone.

“I feel stoked, to be able to celebrate it with my family there, family and friends, I couldn’t be prouder at the moment,” Mayne said.

“The occasion and the opportunity that the Fremantle Football Club has given me to reach 100 games, and now to get a win on it, it’s a special moment that I will cherish for the rest of my life.”

Mayne’s day began with a presentation in the rooms in front of his teammates and family, in which fellow leadership group member Matt de Boer delivered an emotional speech.

“Some kind words were said by Matty de Boer about my upbringing, my mum and dad and also about what I have achieved so far in my footy career,” he said.

“I appreciated what Matty said and spoke to him after, I couldn’t thank him enough.”

After de Boer’s speech, Mayne’s father, Stephen, presented the forward with his number 23 match jumper.

“My dad had a few words to say about me, and to be able to present my jumper to me on my 100th game was definitely a special moment,” he said.

“Having my mum and dad there, and my other family and friends, was a real honour for me.”

Mayne kicked two goals in the demolition of the young Giants, but it was the spread of goal kickers that pleased the Freo forward most.

The club had 15 players find the big sticks – just one off the AFL record of 16.

“It just shows the versatility we have in our football team,” Mayne said.

“The 22 players we have, anyone can bob up and kick goals.

“To share the ball around today was really good, we’re not relying on one player or two players.

“Everyone’s bobbing in with a couple and that’s excellent to see.”
