Fremantle midfielder Stephen Hill has warned his teammates to expect intense pressure from West Coast in Sunday’s Carlton Draught Derby.

The game at Domain Stadium is one of the most highly anticipated derbies in recent years with Freo sitting in first position on the ladder and West Coast in second.

Derby history looms for Freo

The Ross Glendinning Medallist said Freo would need to be focused to overcome West Coast’s pressurised brand of football.

“They are travelling well,” he said. “They were playing good footy, the intensity and pressure was really high.

“We know we can expect fierce pressure this week.

“We’re going to have to bring our best, it’s going to be a tough one.”

Hill said the hype around the game would build in Perth over coming days but the club remained focussed on its own preparation.

“We know it’s going to be pretty pumped up, especially with the fans,” he said.

Derby just another game: Ibbo

“We focus on our preparation during the week, we just focus on what we have to do to play our best football.

“There is going to be a lot of talk about it so we just have to focus on what we can control.”

Fremantle play West Coast at Domain Stadium on Sunday. Bounce down is at 2.40pm.
