Speaking to Perth's Sport FM on Thursday morning, Todd Goldstein explained how coming up against Fremantle’s Aaron Sandilands is one of the toughest assignments in footy.
“It’s always a daunting task coming up against Aaron and it’s not going to get any easier this week,” Goldstein said.
Talking Points ahead of Fremantle v North Melbourne
“He doesn’t get any smaller, he doesn’t get any easier to play against. The sad thing is you think because he’s so big that he’s not going to be able to move, but he’s also a really good mover.
“He covers the ground so well and with the help of Zac Clarke as well he gets a good spell up forward and on the bench.”
Goldstein said he was pleased with his own form, but in a scary proposition for opposition sides, the 26-year-old said there is still scope for him get even better.
Match Preview: Fremantle v Kangaroos
“I feel like I’m getting through games better and better each season and each week,” he said.
“I know we are only seven weeks in, it’s a long season. I can’t get ahead of myself, but there’s still plenty of room for improvement.”
Despite two big wins in Perth in 2014, Goldstein knows his side can’t take anything for granted.
“We can take great confidence that we were able to come over to Perth and beat West Coast and Fremantle (last season).
“That doesn’t mean we are automatically a chance and we know we’ve got a lot of work to do, because they are obviously in some unbelievable form at the moment. (Fremantle’s) first halves have been scary good, so we know we have our work cut out for us.”
Goldstein also singled out the recent performances of defender Lachie Hansen, saying his return to the side had made a big difference in defence.
“Lachie has definitely been somebody we have missed the first four or five weeks. The last few weeks our defence has looked a lot stronger and a lot more capable.
“He just gives everyone so much confidence with his marking ability, if he gets a chance to come off his man or he’s spare, nine times out of 10 he’s going to mark it.”
