Fremantle recruit Josh Deluca is hoping to draw on the experience of some Freo stars as he lines up for Peel Thunder on Saturday afternoon against West Perth.

Deluca won the 2014 premiership with Subiaco, but is looking forward to lining up for Freo’s WAFL partnership club Peel.

“It’s going to be great, I’m really close with the boys now,” he said.

“It’s just another game of footy with your friends, new team and I’m really ready for the challenge and excited for the experience.”

Life as an AFL player has changed the way Deluca goes about his football, but he wouldn’t change it for the world.

“It’s definitely been different,” he said.

“It’s been a great experience…the amount of training and the workload is a lot higher, so adjusting to that has been the main thing.

“All day, everyday footy, that’s been the main part.”

Deluca had a stress reaction during the pre-season and underwent a rehabilitation program.

“Rehab was quite challenging,” he said.

“It makes you appreciate being with the main squad a lot more.

“It was tough, but I got through it.”

While being on restricted duties, Deluca also took the opportunity to bond well with some of the more experienced Freo stars recovering from injury too.

“Michael Johnson…when I started in rehab he was there as well, so I got to know him really well and Zac Dawson too,” he said.

“They’re both really good blokes and really helped me out getting to know the program.

“And Tendai Mzungu, I stayed with him for the first couple of weeks after I was drafted and he was really great.

“A real professional, he taught me a lot.”

Deluca is just aiming to improve in 2015 during his first season of AFL.

“It’s probably the same with everyone,” he said.

“I just want to keep working hard, get some run in the legs and get some good games in.

“Everyone obviously wants to push for a spot and I’ll just do the same.”
