Life as a footballer still hasn't sunk in for Simpson
Josh Simpson, Tanner Smith and Max Duffy had their first day out on the track today training with their new team mates at Fremantle Oval.
The draftees, along with 2012 Doig medalist Ryan Crowley and David Mundy donned the red training bibs, symbolising their first training session for the 2013 pre-season.
Simpson, Tanner and Duffy were put through their paces early with sports science manager Jason Weber.
They were guided through some of the drills and watched in anticipation, before having a crack at it themselves.
After a bit of encouragement from the senior players, the draftees started to find their feet, and get their head around some of the more complicated drills.
For Simpson, today was a day he has been waiting for his whole life.
“Getting drafted was a dream, but I think when you’re actually out on the track with the rest of the boys, that’s when it really hits you,” Simpson said.
“There’s been a few times when I’ve just stood there and realised who I’m standing with, it hasn’t really sunk in yet.”
The wet and wild conditions added another degree of hardness to this morning’s training session, one, which Simpson said he’s glad, is over.
“This morning was the hardest session I have even been in, the wind was crazy,” he said.
“I’m looking forward to going home for a sleep, I’m exhausted.”
