A 65-point loss wasn’t the desired result for David Mundy’s first game as Fremantle captain, but the Freo skipper acknowledged the impressive performance the Western Bulldogs put forward on Sunday.
“They were excellent,” Mundy said.
“Their attack on the ball and ferocity around the contest was first class.

Mundy said the Bulldogs pressure was a key factor in the loss, as their tenacity prevented Freo from using the ball with any consistency.
“They were fantastic with their pressure and really forced us into some critical errors and turned the ball over at will,” he said.
“That’s a recipe for disaster so it’s one of the areas we’ll try and improve on for next week.”
While Mundy was clearly disappointed with the result, he said the team would use the game as a learning experience heading into the Starlight Purple Haze game against Gold Coast in round two.
“Clearly we aren’t satisfied with how we’ve started the season,” he admitted.
“We thought we were better prepared than what we displayed today.
“We’ll certainly review it, look in depth about where it all went wrong and put measures in place to improve next week.”
