Fremantle senior coach Ross Lyon told Seven News on Tuesday night that the team is ‘energised and enthusiastic’ after Saturday night’s win over the Bombers.
Freo dominated Essendon on the stat sheet, leading in disposals, clearances, contested possessions, inside 50s and hit outs, and Lyon said the performance was another reason for optimism ahead of the clash with the Lions.
“It was certainly enjoyable,” Lyon said.
“I was really pleased for the players.”
Fremantle midfielder Michael Barlow was back to his best, after shutting down Essendon midfielder David Zaharakis.
Barlow kept Zaharakis to just 11 disposals, while collecting 26 of his own.
Lyon was pleased with Barlow’s performance against the Bombers.
“He (Barlow) was virtually best on ground on the weekend,” Lyon said.
Freo received their third NAB Rising Star nomination in five years, with young midfielder Connor Blakely given the honour, after finishing the game with 25 disposals and seven tackles.
