Michael Apeness is nearing a return to training with the main group following his rehab from two separate knee injuries, according to Ross Lyon.
“He’s very close to full training,” Lyon said.
“He’s in great shape and it’s only a matter of time from here.”
Lyon said he’d been impressed by Apeness during his time in rehab and that it would only strengthen the big man’s resolve.
“It’s really lonely in rehab,” he said.
“It’s been a difficult period but it builds a resilience and a mental toughness that he’s handled really well.”
While Apeness has excited as a key forward, Lyon said he’d more than likely take a primary position in the ruck upon his return.
“He was drafted as a key forward,” he said.
“He’s 200cm tall, so he’s probably closer to a ruck, forward when you look at his size and shape.”
