Fremantle midfielder Nathan O’Driscoll believes Fremantle failed to seize momentum late in the game after going down to Sydney by three points on Sunday afternoon.

Speaking post-match on the Final Siren podcast following the loss, O’Driscoll said some of the 'little things' hurt Fremantle in the final term when things were going their way.

"It's little things like holding the ball in at times, we don’t need to play on at times when we are up by 15 points and there are 10 minutes left," O'Driscoll said.

“There are times when we can control the footy and we don’t have to play a fast game.

"When we have them on the speed dial and we've got them locked down, we can keep our foot on the throat and play smarter.

"It might not just be go quick all the time and keep trying to score, it could just be control the footy a bit more and take the sting out of the game, and the momentum out of the game.

"I just feel like we weren't playing momentum well in that last quarter."

While ultimately the match resulted in another loss for Fremantle, O'Driscoll felt the Club had improved their game after last week's 78-point defeat to Geelong at GMHBA Stadium.

“Finishing out games is still definitely something we need to work on,” O’Driscoll said.

“We are only two rounds in. I thought we bounced back pretty well today (following the Geelong loss), and we played some good footy for sure, but we just need to make it over four quarters and finish games off better.

“Last week, we were disappointing over the four quarters, so we wanted to come back out and perform for all four.

“I thought for three and a half quarters (we did)."

Speaking on his own game and development, O’Driscoll said using his running power has been a key area of growth, willing to challenge his direct opponent with his ability to swing between the wing and inside midfield.

“I’ve got the tank to run inside; I think that’s why they’ve built me up this pre-season to be able to go in there,” O’Driscoll said.

“That’s my strength, and I can get on top of my opponent with my run.

“I’d say starting on the wing and then having bursts in there (midfield) is pretty fun, and I can get on top of my opponent.”

O’Driscoll has had 25 disposals in both Round 1 and 2 of 2025.

Fremantle will now face West Coast in Round 3 in the Club’s away RAC Derby, with O’Driscoll anticipating a tough contest.

“Similar to Geelong, we will review this week and move on,” O’Driscoll said.

“There is a lot of good stuff that we can take from this game.

“The Eagles were tough today (against Brisbane); they played really well. I was watching the first half. It’s going to be a tough game.”

Fremantle has won six of the last seven RAC Derby meetings.
