The Fremantle Dockers annual Purple Haze Game for the Starlight Children’s Foundation is still almost two months away, but that hasn’t stopped the Sirens from raising big money early in the year.
Siren favourite Alex Silvagni was joined by teammates Matt de Boer, Jonathon Griffin and Lachie Weller in Mandurah on Sunday, for an event that raised $7629.60 for Starlight.
Silvagni was full of praise for the organisation and its positive impact in the community.
“The Sirens have been going out to communities for a few years now, and always get the locals involved and raise some money,” Silvagni said
“They’ve been absolutely fantastic, and run amazing events for an amazing charity.”
Silvagni said that while his teammates were in the hot seat when question time came around, the decision to help raise money for Starlight was a no brainer.
“The guys are always willing to put their hands up and do something for a great cause,” he said.
Silvagni has been a much loved figure for the supporter group, according to Sirens’ coordinator Diane Meakins.
“Alex has been a great ambassador for the Sirens and a wonderful supporter of ours and of course the ladies love him, too,” she laughed.
While the Sirens contribution for Starlight so far in 2016 has been incredible, Meaks said there were still many events in the calendar to help eclipse the mark they raised last year.
“Last year we raised over $20,000 but we’re looking to improve on that,” she said.
“We have our high tea coming up on March 20, which has become an annual event for us,”
“We’ll also have our own ‘Dancing with the Stars’ event with Carmelo Pizzino as well as our other three club-run events.”
The Fremantle Dockers Foundation is proud to support Starlight as a principal 'Friend of the Foundation'.
