Fremantle midfielder Michael Barlow has admitted he had more to offer in the 2015 finals series but is working hard to return to form next season.

“My finals series wasn’t great and I was really empty and hollow on a personal note as well as a collective that we didn’t get to the grand final and get the chance to win that elusive premiership,” he said.

“I can’t change that, all I can do is give myself the best opportunity to contribute for the long season ahead.

“I’m improving and making myself a better player, it can only be a good thing for the football club.”

A relaxing off-season was just what Barlow needed with the 28-year-old returning with a positive attitude.

“I had a really good mental freshen up, stayed relatively fit and was able to hit the ground running when we got back,” he said.

“I’m just giving myself the best opportunity to stay fit and healthy and available.

“For me personally as an athlete, I trust in my abilities and my capabilities of what I can do for the team and continue to elevate myself and get better.”

With the team back into pre-season training, Barlow said he is focused on harnessing his full potential for the team.

“You have quarters and games where things don’t go your way and you walk off and feel really empty that you haven’t contributed to your full potential,” he said.

“I just try and contribute and concentrate on what I can do next for the team.”
