Fremantle have secured a future second round selection and moved up four places in the second round of the 2019 NAB AFL National Draft in a deal that sees midfielder Ed Langdon join the Melbourne Demons.
Freo have also received Melbourne’s pick no.79 in the 2019 draft in exchange for a future fourth round selection.
The deal means Fremantle currently hold picks seven, 22, 79 and 83 in the 2019 draft.
Langdon was selected at pick no.54 in the 2014 National Draft and played 68 games for Fremantle between 2015 and 2019.
Fremantle list manager Mark Micallef wished Langdon well at his new club.
“The Fremantle Football Club is pleased to advise the we have reached an agreement with the Melbourne Football Club for a trade for Ed Langdon,” Micallef said.
“We would like to thank Ed for his outstanding service in his time at Fremantle since being selected at pick 54 in the 2014 AFL Draft.
“He has been a valued clubman on and off the field and we wish Ed all the very best for the future.”
Micallef said that the trade allowed Fremantle to take a stronger hand into the 2019 and 2020 drafts.
“The trade allows us to move up the order in the 2019 draft to pick 22 whilst also securing a second round pick in 2020,” Micallef said.
“The additional 2019 fifth round selection provides us with further flexibility which was important to us. Melbourne will in turn receive our 2019 second round pick, currently pick 26, as well as a future fourth round selection.”
