New draftee Adam Cerra says he won’t mind leaving the Melbourne weather behind to start a new life at Freo, after the club selected the elite midfield talent with pick no.5 at the NAB AFL National Draft at the Sydney Showgrounds.
The Eastern Ranges product hails from Melbourne but with a love of the sun and sea, Cerra says he will have no issues relocating to WA.
While Cerra is most looking forward to starting pre-season and playing footy, he added that he’s also excited about hitting the beach this summer.
“I can’t wait to start pre-season,” Cerra said.
“Also the beaches, the weather, the whole environment over there.
“Perth’s quite different to Melbourne, especially during the middle of the year as I’m not a big fan of winter.
“I can’t wait to get over there, try the lifestyle and at the end of the day play footy, which is what I love.
“My parents are probably as rapt as I am and can’t wait to come over and see me in Perth and support me."
Cerra didn’t have to wait long to hear his name called out and was greeted by senior coach Ross Lyon on stage.
“It’s an awesome feeling. It’s a childhood dream to get drafted,” Cerra said.
“The hard work starts now and I’m just rapt to get over there and get started.”
Cerra was selected three picks after former Vic Metro teammate Andrew Brayshaw, which the pair posing as an exciting prospect for the future of Freo’s midfield.
According to Cerra, Brayshaw has a similar hardness to brother Angus, who plays for Melbourne.
“Andrew’s just an all-round player,” Cerra said.
“He’s a good person on and off the field. I know he’s a very smart kid and very hard, like his brother Angus, so he’s always willing to go out there and put his body on the line and give everything.
“He’s definitely one of the players in the draft that I’ve loved playing alongside. I can’t wait to get started with him.”
