Fremantle rookie Bailey Banfield said he is on track with his pre-season training and is looking forward to the upcoming season.
The midfielder was selected from Claremont with pick five in the 2017 Rookie Draft, Banfeild said his previous experience playing senior footy has helped him keep up with the professional standards.
“I think I’ve been helped by having the experience of playing senior footy before,” Banfield said.
“I’ve been able to get on the track and stay on the track, that’s the most important thing.”
Banfield said he was inspired by the professionalism he had seen from Connor Blakely in the AFLX competition.
“He is so professional in everything he does,” Banfield said.
“It’s the little things, he really treated this week like a practice run for JLT and the actual season.”
Fremantle played in Pool A of the AFLX competition on Thursday in Adelaide, defeating Port Adelaide by 17 points but fell short against Geelong by 17 points.
Banfield said he is excited to play AFL level footy after having a taste of what it’s like through AFLX.
“It was really good and you just get a taste of what it’s like at AFL level,” Banfield said.
“I’m looking forward to getting a bit more of it later on.”
