Following Sunday afternoon’s 33-point loss to the Crows in Fremantle’s first home game of the 2024 NAB AFLW Season, senior coach Lisa Webb was determined to review, learn and reset from the match during the upcoming six-day break.

Webb said the side were unable to stand up in the high-pressure moments delivered by the Crows.

“(It is) very disappointing to go down like that. Adelaide to their credit are a very good team, that are really well drilled,” Webb said.

“They’ve got some really good players as well, and with them having a plus behind the ball and their ability to work it forward, we were reactive, (and) we weren’t clean in the contest.

“There were key moments when we fumbled the ball, we invited their pressure, and those surge kicks forward made it just that little bit harder for us to defend as well.

“We’ll own that, we’ll keep working to get better, but it was just one of those things that was disappointing today.”

The Crows kept Fremantle goalless for the match, Webb believed there were opportunities up forward her side did not capitalise on.

“I thought we had some opportunities and once again we just fumbled, (and) we didn’t make the decisions with ball in hand, but I’m really confident in the girls to be able to turn that around,” Webb said.

Webb praised the backline for their work rate, but said there were improvements to be made by the entire playing group and coaching staff.

“I thought Ash Brazill was really good again today, Madi Scanlon had her moments – I thought they had some really good efforts,” Webb said.

“It was pretty difficult with the way they were moving the ball for us to defend, and we’ve got to be better than that.”

Confident the side can review and move forward, Webb credited Adelaide as a side to give them an indication of where they sit and how they can improve.

“They (Adelaide) are a really good test, a really strong team and they have been for a while, so it kind of tells us where we’re at, and where we can make some better decision making with ball in hand – it will be a crucial thing for us next week,” Webb said.

“I want us to review it really hard. I think it’s important for us – we’re continuing to grow and reflect, and see where we went wrong, otherwise we’re making the same mistakes.

“I’ve got strong faith and belief in what we’re doing here - they’ve been working hard at their craft, they’ll continue to build.

“Obviously (it’s) a tough one for us to swallow, but we’ve got a six-day break, so we want to make sure we reset and push forward for next week.”

Fremantle will travel to South Australia next week to face Port Adelaide in Week 3 at Alberton Oval on Saturday 14 September at 2.35pm WST.
