Waylalup senior coach Justin Longmuir has said the Club will continue to work on converting opportunities after kicking more than 15 behinds for a second consecutive week.
With the game tied at 47 all at three-quarter time, Walyalup kicked three of the final four goals to defeat Euro-Yroke (St Kilda) by 17 points.
“I was pleased with the way we adjusted at half time,” Longmuir said.
“I thought we got the game on our terms for pretty much the whole second half.
“We will just get to work on our execution."
With the game in the balance, veteran midfielder Jaeger O’Meara sealed the win with two goals in the final 10 minutes.
Longmuir admitted that the final execution had been off for Walyalup over the past two weeks, but was confident the team had improved on creating scoring opportunities.
“Sometimes you just go through these little patches where it just becomes contagious,” Longmuir said.
“I don’t think our goal kicking was an issue (earlier in the year), creating the opportunities was more of an issue at times throughout the year.
“Step by step we are creating more opportunities now, we just need to keep working on finishing.
“16 marks inside forward 50 against a really good backline, we are doing a lot right.”
As the attention shifts to match review in the week and Collingwood on Friday night, Longmuir was adamant he was pleased with the effort and consistency throughout the season so far.
“I think week-to-week we’ve been really consistent besides one poor game against West Coast,” Longmuir said.
“Like every team, we’ve got some work to do but we feel like we have been really competitive.”
Walyalup will face Collingwood at Optus Stadium on Friday night next week.
