On Saturday evening at Optus Stadium against the Western Bulldogs in our annual Len Hall tribute game, Sean Darcy will play his 100th AFL game for the Club.
2,498 days after making his debut against Geelong in round 14 of 2017.
Darcy was taken with pick 38 in the 2016 National Draft, the now 25-year-old becomes the 50th player for Fremantle to reach the 100-game milestone, joining current teammates Nat Fyfe (224), Michael Walters (228), Luke Ryan (138), Andrew Brayshaw (129), Matthew Taberner (124), Alex Pearce (113), Ethan Hughes (107) and Brennan Cox (103).
Throughout his eight seasons with Fremantle, Darcy has accumulated an illustrious resume of individual honours, including a Doig Medal win in 2021, two 22under22 final team selections (2018, 2020), a Glendinning-Allan Medal (round 22 of 2022), an All-Australian nomination (2021) and 15 career Brownlow Medal votes.
The 203cm big man has three seasons in the top 10 for most hit outs registered by a player at the Club (the other seven are all Aaron Sandilands), and for his career Darcy has 3,063 hit outs to his name at an average of 30.94 per game.
Darcy sits seventh all time on average for hit outs per game for ruckman who have played 50 or more games.
Half of Darcy’s AFL games to date have seen the ruck giant chalk up 30 or more hit outs, 19 games have been 40 or more, and six have seen the big man register 50 plus hit outs in a single game.
Better still, across his career Darcy is ranked as ‘elite’ for hit outs to advantage (top 10 per cent of players in the same position).
His career-high hit outs came against Carlton in round 17 of 2023 when Darcy gathered 58 hit outs, 14 disposals, six tackles and 124 AFL Fantasy points.
It is fitting that Darcy will play his 100-game milestone game against the Western Bulldogs, a team that Darcy needs just 37 more hit outs against to hit a career milestone of 300 against (his third highest against any team), with Darcy’s last two outings against the Dogs both featuring 50 plus hit outs (round six and 16 of 2023).
Looking at some of his other numbers, Darcy needs just 15 more disposals to reach 1300, 12 more goals until 50 career goals and eight more tackles to hit the 300 mark.
Here is to 100 games of Sean Darcy and hopefully many, many more.
