Three Fremantle players have been nominated for the 2019 AFLPA MVP Award, which are set to be announced on Thursday, 29 August.
The nomination for the MVP Award is a two-stage process. The first involves players nominating three teammates for the award, before three nominees from every club are presented to the wider playing group for a vote to decide the winner. Players cannot vote for their own teammates in stage two of the process.
Alongside the Most Courageous, Best Captain and Best First Year award nominees, the Fremantle players have nominated the three players they believe are their most valuable.
Fremantle MVP
Nat Fyfe (Captain)
Fyfe ranked third for contested possessions and fourth for clearances in 2019, with another outstanding season that saw him continue as one of the most dominant midfielders in the league.
He averaged 29.2 disposals per game from his 20 games, which was a career high.
Michael Walters
Walters kicked 40 goals in 2019 to win Fremantle’s goal kicking while continuing to play a significant role in the midfield.
He averaged career high numbers for disposals (21.8), clearances (3.8) and contested possessions (9.8).
Bradley Hill
Hill has had an outstanding season in 2019 as one of Fremantle’s key midfielders. Ranked 7th in the league for total metres gained and 5th in the league for kicks, Hill has used his pace and skill throughout the season to provide run and carry between Fremantle’s half back and forward line.
Most Courageous – Ethan Hughes
Recently signing a two-year contract extension, Hughes has had a breakout year in 2019 playing 20 games compared to just 5 in 2018.
Best First Year – Lachie Schultz
Making his debut in round one, Schultz has played seven games for Freo in 2019 and has kicked four goals. Schultz has played as a small forward, bringing intensity and effort to each game as he looks to build further heading into the 2020 season.
