Fremantle stars Nathan Fyfe and Michael Walters have been named in the AFL Players’ Association’s 22under22 team.

The side was announced on Tuesday night in Melbourne, where Gold Coast’s Gary Ablett was crowned the AFLPA’s MVP for a fifth time.

Footy fans were asked to help select a team showcasing the competition’s 22 best players under the age of 22 by voting via social media. To be eligible, players had to be aged 22 or under for the entire AFL season.

Fyfe, who has starred in Fremantle’s midfield this season, was named in the starting side. He also finished 10th overall behind Ablett in the MVP award.
Walters was nominated as a forward and has been named on the bench.

Essendon’s Dyson Heppell is the captain of the 22under22 team, with Jack Ziebell from North Melbourne the vice-captain.

In other awards presented on the night, Geelong’s Joel Selwood took out both the Best Captain and Most Courageous Awards.

Fremantle’s Matt de Boer was nominated for most courageous, while Matthew Pavlich was in the running for best captain.
