Fremantle need to improve their ball use as the club builds into 2017, according to Michael Walters.
Fremantle played well in patches, but let themselves down when trying to move the ball out of defence.
They turned the ball over inside defensive 50 on a number of occasions and the 25 year old said the team needed to back themselves when using the football.
“We got some turnovers in the backline which isn’t ideal, but once we hit them, ball movement goes from there,” he said.
Talking points from Adelaide clash
“We just need to make sure we maintain that composure and try not to rush the ball too much and make sure we hit those kicks.”
Walters was Fremantle’s best afield, kicking a career high five goals and collecting 17 possessions.
The livewire said he was happy with his performance, but still wanted to improve.
“A little upside for myself, to make sure I maintain that motivation and try and improve for the team,” he said.
Lyon post-match Q & A
Fremantle play GWS and Western Bulldogs in their final two games of 2016, and Walters said while the team wants to finish the season strongly, the focus was on next season.
“The last two games is not just building on this year, but building on next year, and making sure we fast-track the younger players,” he said.
Fremantle travel to Sydney next week to face the Giants and 92-gamer Walters said the team would review Sunday’s game and identify the areas to improve on.
“There’s no doubt we’ll go over this game on Tuesday and see what we need to work on,” he said.
