Earlier this month passionate Fremantle fan and club volunteer Daryl Mansfield received a special surprise from Tourism Northern Tasmania, an all-expenses paid trip to see his beloved Freo face Hawthorn in Tasmania in round eight.

Mansfield has been a stalwart of the Fremantle Docker’s community, contributing his time as a volunteer for the better part of a decade and a half.

“I’ve had an association with Fremantle for about 15 years,” Mansfield said.

“I used to chair the Primary School Football Advisory Committee for about 12 years.

“Over a period of time I was invited to assist them in different capacities, programs running through schools, game day announcing, and now I help with the community football development program.”

The Fremantle Dockers have been extremely appreciative of Daryl’s constant support and were thrilled to surprise he and his wife Leanne with the trip.

With an action packed itinerary, the Mansfield’s began their Northern Tasmanian experience at Hollybank treetop adventures. The couple enjoyed a bird’s eye view of Tasmanian forestry and wildlife as they zip lined from tree to tree along almost a kilometre of cable.

After jelly legs had worn off the Mansfield’s drove north to Longford. After a quick lunch at ‘Hubert and Dan’, the Mansfield’s visited Woolmers Estate.

Woolmers reflects colonial life in Tasmania and is acknowledged as one of the most outstanding examples of 19th century rural settlements in Australia. The couple were lucky enough to have a personalised tour of the grounds.

It just so happened that Daryl and Leanne celebrated their 32nd wedding anniversary on Friday and were treated to a six-course degustation hosted by celebrity chef Donovan Cooke thanks to TasTAFE.

The Mansfield’s described their weekend in Tassie as “an experience of a lifetime”.

“What a beautiful part of the world.

“We feel like we’ve won the Lotto to be honest.”

Daryl said he was thrilled to have the opportunity to visit Tassie and enjoy all that Launceston had to offer.
