Peel Thunder kept their finals dream alive this Saturday with a 25-point win against East Perth in wet and windy conditions at Bendigo Bank Stadium.
Despite trailing at quarter time Peel fought back to win against East Perth, with a final score of 14.8.92 to the Royals 10.7.67.
Docker forward Hugh Dixon, who scored one goal, said it was a well needed win for the team.
“[It’s a] great win for the boys, [I’m] really happy for everyone,” he said.
Peel put up a fight in the first quarter but with the wind against them East Perth used the advantage to lead by 15 points.
Peel came firing back in the second quarter scoring seven goals to the Royal’s one point, flipping the margin to be in front by 29 points.
Hugh Dixon said the combination of pressure and the tough conditions played in their favour.
“Well we were lucky we had the wind with us, so that obviously helped, it was just manic pressure up forward, kept it in, repeat stoppages and obviously the back line held up really strong,” he said.
“It was a great quarter for the boys.”
Peel maintained their lead in the third term with Sam Switkowski scoring the first of two goals.
Dixon said Switkowski’s presence in the forward really helped the team get the win.
“Swit is great. You know what you're going to get from him every week, just manic pressure up forward, tackles, chase from behind,” he said.
“He's a great member of the team.”
East Perth attempted to come back in the last quarter but the Thunder held on to secure the win.
Returning Docker Tommy Sheridan played an impressive game with 39 disposals, 10 tackles and two goals.
Hugh Dixon said Sheridan is a valuable member of the team.
“He's great, his leadership on the field as well is unbelievable,” he said.
“He put himself up for selection next week for sure.”
Dixon said Dockers midfielder Stefan Giro, who had 27 disposals, two goals and a point, had a good performance today.
“He kicked a couple good goals which were really helpful,” he said.
“He's a good player and his a work ethic and run around the ground is unbelievable.”
Peel Thunder have a bye next week before facing Claremont on Saturday the 18th of August at Claremont Oval.
