The result of Fremantle’s upcoming captaincy vote won’t change how Alex Pearce approaches his leadership in 2023.
A stand-in captain in 2022 when Nat Fyfe was injured, the 27-year-old is a candidate to take on the role following Nat Fyfe's six years as skipper.
Fellow leadership group members Andrew Brayshaw and Caleb Serong are also among those expected to be in the running.
“Obviously there’s been plenty of talk around it and my name’s been mentioned,” Pearce told Channel 10 News.
“It’s nice to be thought of in that light and obviously stepping in for Nathan last year was a humbling experience and a very fulfilling experience.
“I see myself as a leader regardless and I think the way I behave and act this season moving forward is not going to change depending on where it goes.”

A stand-in captain for 16 games in 2022, Pearce said he found the role challenging early on.
“I probably put too much pressure on myself early and got a bit worn down,” Pearce said.
“I think naturally you can put yourself under too much pressure and do too much, which is a bit of trap.
“As it went on, I started to find my feet and find the best way for me to lead.”
