Fremantle Senior Coach Justin Longmuir said that Friday’s Len Hall Tribute Game win over the Crows was the exact response he and his coaching group had asked for.

Defender Jordan Clark’s desperate third-quarter rundown tackle on Adelaide’s Alex Neal-Bullen, who was running into an open goal, personified the response Longmuir was looking for.

“Those are the things that you are looking for… it was just a never-say-die attitude,” Longmuir said in his post-match media conference.

“There were a few plays where it just looked like they were going to score, and we were just able to get a fingernail in.

“I think Clarky (Jordan Clark) had one in the second quarter where he went back with the flight to spoil, and then he was good enough early in the third quarter to get a hand in on Neal-Bullen’s dribble goal.”

Fremantle lost the contested possessions by 18 and uncontested possessions by 48 in Round 6 against Melbourne – the worst differential in each stat this season – but tonight they turned it around, winning both the contested (206-194) and uncontested (128-122) counts with an unrelenting work rate.

“It was a good response. I thought we jumped into the game really well, and I thought some of the areas we worked on during the week and asked the players to lift in — we implemented that from the start," Longmuir said.

“We had a good week, and the players had a steely resolve in the warm-up.

“They were really determined to bounce back, and it was good to see us jump into a game like that.

“It was a really solid performance, and it’s a performance we can build off.”

Inaugural Arthur Leggett Medallists Andrew Brayshaw and midfield maestro Caleb Serong were at their best on the night. The duo combined for 69 disposals, 36 contested possessions, 17 score involvements and 16 clearances.

The two were key contributors in helping Fremantle produce 45 points from intercepts and 33 points from clearances.

“I thought our midfield as a whole was really good," Longmuir said.

“Brayshaw played well and won the medal, but like I said at the start, it was a team effort led by our leaders.

“I’d hate to single anyone out because the footy we want to play is built off the team and everyone buying into roles.

“I thought we did that tonight.”
