Andrew Brayshaw feels there’s scope for him to improve further on his AFLPA MVP winning season as a part of what he hopes will be a stronger and more dynamic midfield in 2023.
The 22-year-old believes the continued improvement of Caleb Serong, and additions of Jaeger O’Meara and Luke Jackson, can only benefit his game as it gives opponents more threats to worry about.
Speaking on 6PR in an interview with David Mundy and Adam Papalia, Brayshaw spoke about his excitement for the coming season.
“There’s a big hole to fill with ‘Barra’ (Mundy) out of the side now,” Brayshaw said.
“I think Jaeger will do his best to fill that role, he’s an experienced campaigner and I’m very excited by the prospect of having Sean Darcy and Luke Jackson working together, waxing on and waxing off, playing forward and switching into the ruck. That’s really exciting.
“With guys like Serong and Jaeger popping up, hopefully that will take some attention away from me.
“(Assistant coach) Joel Corey’s done a really good job with gelling that group.”

When Mundy asked who was impressing Brayshaw most at training, the midfielder had a clear number one.
“There’s a few that have really impressed me but I’m probably most excited for Luke Jackson,” Brayshaw said.
“He’s shown already that he can be a dominant ruck and forward prospect.
“As a big fella, his ability to almost play as another midfielder once he’s tapped it down, I’ve found really exciting and he comes out the front of stoppages and takes the game on.
“For a big bloke, he’s got really good skills in tight. He is probably my number one most exciting prospect.”
Brayshaw added that he’s not looking to change anything around his personal preparation for 2023.
“I’m trying to stick to my processes and that was training really hard every week and doing my mental preparation for the game and my extras with the midfield coach,” Brayshaw said.
“I’ve rolled into this year just trying to push those boundaries again and encourage others to come along with me.”
