The Kimberley region has been devastated by the worst floods in Western Australia’s history and the Club are calling on members and fans to help the region by donating to the Purple Hands Foundation Kimberley Floods Appeal, as the community looks to rebuild and recover from this natural disaster.

The region forms part of Fremantle’s Next Generation Academy zone, and is where the Purple Hands Foundation runs its successful Kimberley Connected social impact program in schools across the region.

All donations made to the PHF Kimberley Floods Appeal between the dates of 16 - 23 January will be passed on directly as one ‘Purple Army’ lump sum to the Lord Mayors Distress Relief Fund (LMDRF), Western Australia’s official State emergency fund.

Hailing from Broome, forward Bailey Banfield encouraged Fremantle members and supporters to get behind the PHF appeal and show how the Purple Army rallies to help our communities when they are in need.

"As a Freo family, we want to really get behind our community up in the Kimberley, we have got really strong links up there," Banfield said.

"We currently have five (players on the list) who grew up there or are from there, we have had a number of NGA boys drafted from up there and it’s our zone and our region. We do a lot of community work there and have really strong ties to the area.

"We are asking our family and Purple Army to get behind this appeal and we are going to donate it as a big sum.

"A part of our purpose as a Club is not just on-field success but also our off-field position and how we want to be a part of the community and give back more than what we take.

"We want to enrich the community and make our family proud. We talk about that a lot as a Club and part of family is looking after each other when someone is going through hardship or gets knocked down you pick them up and support them, that’s what we are looking to do."
